Your catalog uses internal stock codes. A recall notice may describe the product by manufacturer, model, or a phrase from its packaging. The practical problem is connecting those identities before deciding what the notice means for stock on hand. A public search can return relevant notices. The private function adds your SKU export, checked manufacturer mappings, and product-safety review history. It makes uncertain matches visible instead of clearing them by guesswork. This intelligence page concerns external product evidence that staff can compare with the catalog. ## The flagship tool: catalog recall match queue. **Your question:** “Which of my products appear in a recall notice, and what evidence do we need to confirm the match?” The proposed function collects new and republished CPSC notices. It compares available product identifiers with an owner-approved catalog export. Exact identifiers receive one review status; description-only similarities receive another. The output is a private exception queue. The product-safety lead checks the physical label and current official notice before deciding what action applies. ### Read what the notice supplies. The [CPSC Recall Retrieval API](https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/CPSC-Recalls-Application-Program-Interface-API-Information) provides machine-readable recall information. A [bounded query for 2026.10.20 through 2026.10.27](https://www.saferproducts.gov/RestWebServices/Recall?format=json&RecallDateStart=2026-10-20&RecallDateEnd=2026-10-27) returned five records during our check. One was recall number 27042, dated 2026.10.22, for LED projecting finger-light toys. Its structured model field was blank, and the verified research found no UPCs. The absence of those identifiers is a matching problem to expose. It cannot be repaired by inventing a model number. | Source or store field | How the review uses it | | --- | --- | | RecallID and recall number | Keeping observations attached to the same notice | | LastPublishDate | Checking whether the published record changed | | Product and manufacturer text | Finding possible catalog relationships | | Model or UPC, when supplied | Comparing identifiers with a checked product record | | Store SKU | Connecting the candidate to the seller's own catalog | | Stock quantity | Showing the store's recorded inventory context | | Official notice link | Reviewing the complete current evidence and remedy | Stock quantity comes from your store. It is not a field the public recall feed can know. The queue must show the catalog export date beside that quantity. ### Match identities without hiding uncertainty. The merchandising lead chooses catalog categories and review urgency. The collector checks notices daily with an overlap window so recently changed records can be reconsidered. The matching step normalizes manufacturer names and product identifiers while retaining the original text. It uses confirmed identifiers first. Brand and description similarities create candidates for review, never automatic identification. A matching product name can cover different variants or production periods. The reviewer checks model, lot, dates, and the actual label against the notice. Missing evidence remains a supplier question. The first run also needs a defined historical coverage window. Checking only newly published notices cannot establish whether older stock appears in earlier records. The scope states the archive searched and any gaps. Store the reason for a rejected match. If the notice changes, reopen only the review affected by that change. A previous decision should remain visible with its source version rather than disappear beneath the latest response. ### Give the safety reviewer a usable queue. Each proposed row contains a candidate SKU, match evidence, missing identifiers, stock context, source date, official link, and review owner. The reviewer records a confirmed match, rejected match, or unresolved question. Those are workflow decisions. A product absent from the queue does not receive a “safe” label. A failed source request does not mean that no notices were published. The function does not delist items, issue refunds, send customer messages, or place replacement orders. Applicable action follows the current notice and the seller's product-safety process. The build preserves evidence for that decision. **Why it compounds:** confirmed SKU-to-manufacturer mappings, supplier naming corrections, false matches, and disposition records become an owned product history. A future catalog import can reuse checked identities instead of repeating the same investigation. The starting design has two working functions: notice collection and catalog matching, then the reviewed disposition record. Store writes require a separate approved scope. ## Two more tools. ### Tariff revision watch. “Did the tariff text behind any approved product classification change since our last order?” The [USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule archive](https://www.usitc.gov/harmonized_tariff_information/hts/archive/list) publishes edition downloads, including structured JSON. The verified research found 2026 Revision 21 with HTS numbers, hierarchy, rate fields, and footnotes. A proposed function compares editions only against codes your customs broker has already approved for the relevant products. Changed rows, parent headings, footnotes, and additional-duty references go to the broker with affected SKU references. A stable base-rate cell cannot establish unchanged landed duty. The function does not classify an unknown product, calculate a binding duty, file an entry, or change prices. Your owned history connects broker-approved classifications, source editions, supplier evidence, and the decisions made after each review. ### Product rule watch. “Which product-rule publications should our buyer review before the next order?” The [Federal Register CPSC document API](https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/documents.json?per_page=1&order=newest&conditions%5Bagencies%5D%5B%5D=consumer-product-safety-commission) supplies document types, dates, identifiers, and official references. A weekly comparison matches approved product categories to relevant publications. It distinguishes proposed rules, final rules, and notices. The verified source check returned a notice as its newest item, which cannot be relabeled as a new product rule. The buyer supplies merchandise categories. A qualified reviewer checks applicability and controlling text before entering a deadline in the store's planning record. Inspect candidate notices, matching text, publication dates, and official links. An empty result means “no matching notice in this search.” It does not establish product safety. The demonstration supplies public product evidence. The private function adds the store's catalog, stock context, checked identities, and review decisions. The public query should never receive customer names, order numbers, purchase histories, injury descriptions, or photographs of people. Free-text searches should not be retained in application logs. Customer records and the separate consumer incident-report dataset are outside this design. ## The limits that shape the design. A recall queue cannot certify compliance or replace the official notice. Preserve contradictory or missing source fields as questions. The CPSC feed covers its published product scope; it does not represent every regulator's records. Current notice versions and source freshness must remain visible. Where collection is incomplete, show the limitation beside the result. Do not hide a failed refresh behind a reassuring empty list.
