# Public inspection signals for pest control companies.

## The blind spot

A commercial service manager needs to know whether a public inspection finding has been reconciled with the company's signed service record. The useful question concerns a specific account, observation date, and open corrective task.

A raw violation list cannot answer it. Several rows can describe one inspection. A date can be a placeholder. An older finding can remain visible after later service. Without those distinctions, a report can exaggerate activity or imply a current condition the source never established.

The [pest control company page](/for/pest-control-companies) covers callback briefs and service-report preparation. This intelligence function connects official public evidence to the company's own follow-through history.

## The flagship tool: commercial inspection follow-through

**Your question:** “Which restaurant account needs a documented manager check before its next service report, and what evidence has our team already recorded?”

The verified pilot uses [NYC DOHMH Restaurant Inspection Results](https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/43nn-pn8j.json). The source review on 2026.10.27 confirmed establishment identifiers, inspection dates, violation codes, descriptions, and action fields.

A citation row identifies the establishment through `CAMIS`. It also carries `inspection_date`, `inspection_type`, `violation_code`, and `violation_description`. Multiple citation rows can repeat the same establishment and inspection details.

The source check found code `04L` with text describing evidence of mice. That confirms what the published row said about its observation. It does not establish a present infestation, the cause of a problem, or the performance of a previous service provider.

### Build inspection events before account alerts.

Collect changed records daily. Group rows by CAMIS, inspection date, and inspection type. Keep each violation within its event so one inspection with several findings does not become several separate visits.

Validate dates before a record enters the finding stream. The publisher uses `1900-01-01` for permit applicants not yet inspected. That marker belongs in a separate applicant stream. It must never become a failed inspection or an exceptionally old pest incident.

Reject future dates and preserve exclusions in the run record. The companion rodent dataset produced future-dated rows during source verification. Sorting by the largest date without validation would promote invalid observations above usable evidence.

Match public CAMIS identifiers to the company's account IDs through reviewed entity and address checks. A similar business name or shared street address is insufficient. Ambiguous matches remain open for the account manager rather than creating an accusation in a customer file.

### What reaches the service manager.

The daily exception list shows the source quotation, observation date, inspection type, published action or status, and matching service-log reference. It identifies whether staff have already reviewed the finding and which corrective-work questions remain unanswered.

A useful review item might ask whether a documented exclusion repair relates to the cited location. It must not decide that another application is needed. Sanitation, structural work, customer responsibilities, and technical treatment remain distinct findings for qualified staff.

The commercial service manager sets account scope. The licensed technical lead checks the official text against signed field observations. The account manager verifies documented corrective work and controls communication. A disappearing public row does not establish that the problem was corrected.

The function has two parts: validated inspection history and account reconciliation. Its acceptance checks include repeated citation rows, the 1900 sentinel, future dates, uncertain account matches, and later source changes.

### Keep applicants separate from findings.

The same source can support a weekly research queue of permit applicants awaiting their first inspection. Record each CAMIS identifier's first-seen date and its transition to a real inspection date.

Label the row “permit applicant, not yet inspected.” The first-seen date is the date your system observed it. Opening date, operating status, and purchasing need remain questions for a researcher.

Keep this queue separate from existing-account exceptions. A new applicant has no pest finding merely because it appears in the file. The tool must never create that implication in a report or proposed message.

### What becomes your company's history.

The owned record connects dated citations, staff-confirmed matches, signed findings, and documented follow-through. It preserves rejected matches and distinguishes completed technical work from outstanding landlord or customer tasks.

Later reviews can see what the company checked, who checked it, and which evidence supported closure. Public inspection records cannot provide that service history. Your company can retain it across technician, account-manager, and software changes.

## Two more tools

### Inspected-area rodent activity brief.

“Which service zones deserve a capacity review, given the inspection coverage?” [NYC Rodent Inspection](https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/p937-wjvj.json) supplies job identifiers, inspection types, dates, results, and borough-block-lot references.

Deduplicate by job, type, date, and BBL. Keep initial inspections, treatment visits, and compliance visits distinct. The weekly zone report shows the number inspected beside the result counts.

Inspection effort affects comparisons. More inspections cannot automatically mean more rats, and missing records cannot establish a pest-free area. Residential addresses and occupants do not belong in a public output.

### Pesticide notice triage.

“Which federal publication should our technical lead compare with the products we hold?” The [Federal Register EPA feed](https://www.federalregister.gov/api/v1/documents.json?conditions%5Bagencies%5D%5B%5D=environmental-protection-agency&per_page=1&order=newest) supplies document identifiers, dates, types, and source links.

Match reviewed ingredient, product, or docket terms. The source research found that a broad rodenticide keyword also matched statutory wording unrelated to a specific inventory decision. Preserve the match reason and let the technical lead reject it.

The output is a review inbox. It does not select chemicals, rewrite labels, direct application, or establish state registration. Actual product labeling and qualified technical review control treatment decisions.

## Try the public demo

[Open Food-site inspection signals](/tools/food-site-inspection-signals)

Choose a supported NYC area and recent window to inspect aggregate activity. Read distinct inspected establishments separately from inspection events and citation counts. Read uninspected applicants as a separate population.

The public view should show source age and excluded records, including invalid dates and duplicate rows collapsed into events. Small groups stay suppressed. No named business receives an infestation score.

The demonstration shows public event normalization. The private function adds the company's reviewed account mapping and service history. Establishment names, owner names, personal phones, residential details, and visitor identities stay outside the public view. NYC reuse terms remain a release check for the demo.

## The limits that shape the design

A citation is dated evidence. It cannot certify current conditions, establish health effects, or justify a public shame list. These functions do not make housing, tenant, credit, or insurance decisions. They do not schedule service or send outreach.

A separate public sample can explain the company's reporting process without exposing an account. The [commercial pest report sample guide](/articles/commercial-pest-control-report-sample-page) covers that publication task.

## Build the function your company owns

Scale With Search defines the account scope, source rules, review output, and handoff checks before building. The company keeps the history, corrections, and run instructions. Each working function starts from $7,500.
