Keep those checks separate. A button that opens a dialer has passed only the first part of your proposed test. MDN documents telephone links using the `tel:` scheme. Use this guide to brief your maintainer and dispatch staff. Agree on a labeled test during an appropriate period before calling. The steps below are recommendations for your own website. ## Identify every number before changing a button List the home page, service pages, contact page, header, and any fixed mobile call control. Record the displayed number and its underlying destination separately. Ask the owner which number should receive roadside inquiries. If an office, billing, release, or account line serves another purpose, label that purpose. Do not replace all telephone links with one number until the office approves the distinction. Google requires a profile's phone number to connect to the individual business location and remain under the business's direct control. Record the person who controls each telephone destination. Leave an unfamiliar forwarded number unresolved until that person explains it. ## Check the visible label and actual link Ask your maintainer to inspect the anchor destination, including numbers hidden behind mobile-only controls. Require the destination to match the approved line. For this brief, request a visible telephone number beside a descriptive action such as “Call dispatch.” Keep the number readable if the visitor cannot activate the control. Avoid a truck image serving as the only contact instruction. Have the maintainer test the page on the devices you agree to support. Include keyboard access, enlarged text, and a small phone screen. Check that banners and chat controls leave the call action reachable. These tests should capture observed behavior. Do not report a successful connection merely because the page contains a telephone link. ## Separate the call test from the dispatch decision Arrange the receiving-side check with staff. If the business cannot support “24-hour towing,” remove it from the affected page and metadata. Do not infer around-the-clock service from a form that remains online. For nonurgent forms, explain whether the submission requests a callback or another office response. Use confirmation wording that matches the actual process. Keep an arrival promise out of an automatic acknowledgment. Where the office and dispatch have different schedules, show the relevant distinction near each contact option.
