# Turn SaaS user feedback into SEO content that drives trials.

A product manager (PM) reads the last 100 support tickets. Twelve of them ask, "How do I connect this to Slack?" That question is a keyword ("project management Slack integration") and a content brief. The same PM reviews lost deals and finds "too expensive compared to Asana" in a large share of the loss reasons. That is a comparison page.

You already hold the inputs that decide which content ranks and converts: user feedback, sales objections, feature adoption data, and competitive intelligence. This article shows how to turn them into keyword targets, briefs, priorities, and measurements. The figures in the examples are sample data. Replace them with your own.

## Own content priorities, not content production

You extract keyword targets from user behavior, write the briefs, and assign them to writers. Then you measure each page against product goals: trial signups, feature adoption, and retention. Growth marketers or freelancers write the pages. When you treat SEO as product work, organic traffic becomes a measurable acquisition channel. When SEO becomes marketing work that nobody in product reviews, content drifts away from user needs and stops converting.

Four reasons put this work with the PM:

- **Feedback shows demand before keyword tools do.** Suppose you launch a Gantt chart feature. Within two weeks, 20 tickets ask, "How do I export a Gantt chart to PDF?" Ahrefs shows no volume for that query yet. Write the page now, and it can rank by the time search volume appears.
- **Product context stops content drift.** Writers produce fluent copy but can describe a feature wrong or overstate it. You catch the error: "We do not support two-way Salesforce sync yet. Change the comparison page to one-way sync." A trial user who finds a missing feature churns.
- **Content priority works like feature priority.** You already rank features by impact against effort. The same method ranks pages.
- **Conversion is product work.** Once a visitor lands, conversion depends on clarity, trust, and friction. You already A/B test onboarding flows. Test content CTAs and page layouts the same way.

## Extract keyword targets from four feedback sources

Users write support tickets and community posts in natural language. That language is close to the query they type into Google.

### Support tickets

1. Export the last 100 tickets from your help desk, such as Zendesk, Intercom, or Help Scout.
2. Tag each ticket: integration, feature request, how-to, bug, or billing.
3. Find the questions that appear three or more times.
4. Turn each recurring question into a keyword.

A ticket that asks, "How do I connect [Your product] to Google Calendar?" becomes the keyword "[Your product] Google Calendar integration". It supports a help article and a blog post.

### Sales calls

1. Review the last 20 sales call recordings or their Gong or Chorus transcripts.
2. List the objections, such as "too expensive", "missing feature X", or "worried about migration from [Competitor]".
3. Turn each objection into a content target.

The objection "We are comparing you to Asana. How are you different?" becomes "[Your product] vs. Asana" and "Asana alternative". The page carries a feature matrix, a plan comparison, and a migration guide.

### Community questions

Check your Slack community, Discord, subreddit, and mentions on X each week. Look for questions that stump users or start long threads, and answer them in full. The question "Can I automate recurring tasks?" becomes "[Your product] task automation", with a feature guide, step-by-step instructions, and a video walkthrough.

### Feature requests

1. Open the request backlog in Productboard, Canny, or GitHub issues.
2. Find the 10 most-requested features.
3. Check which of them competitors already offer.
4. For each match, write content that explains the workaround or the roadmap.

Users request time tracking, and Asana has it. Target "project management with time tracking" with a page on time tracking through integrations. Link it to the Toggl and Harvest integrations. The page ranks and shows users a solution while the feature is still in development.

## Write a brief the writer can execute

You write the brief. The writer executes it. Use this template:

```text
Title: [H1 with the target keyword]
Target keyword: [primary keyword from research]
Search intent: [informational, commercial, or transactional]
Word count: [1,500-2,500 for posts, 2,500-4,000 for pillar pages]
Outline:
Intro (150 words): what the article covers and why it matters
H2: [core topic] - key points, with an example, screenshot, or use case
H2: [supporting topic] - key points
H2: [product fit] - how the product solves this; link to the feature page
H2: Questions from support tickets - 5 to 7, each answered in 50-100 words
Conclusion (100 words): key points and the CTA
Internal links: related posts, product pages, case studies
CTAs: primary (trial or demo), secondary (lead magnet or newsletter)
Product accuracy notes:
- Feature limits to state
- Correct terms to use
- Competitor comparisons to include or avoid
Acceptance criteria:
- [ ] Answers the user question clearly
- [ ] Includes real examples: screenshots, data, or customer stories
- [ ] Links to the product where it helps the reader
- [ ] Describes current product capabilities accurately
- [ ] Contains no outdated information (checked against product docs)
```

Here is a filled-in example for an integration guide:

```text
Title: Connect [Your product] to Slack for project updates
Target keyword: [Your product] Slack integration
Search intent: informational (how-to)
Word count: 1,800
H2: Why connect [Your product] to Slack
- Get project updates in Slack without opening the dashboard
- Discuss tasks in Slack threads
- Switch tools less often
H2: Set up the integration (a screenshot for each step)
1. Open Integrations in [Your product]
2. Click "Connect to Slack"
3. Authorize [Your product] in the Slack workspace
4. Choose the channels that receive notifications
H2: Customize notifications
- Filter to high-priority tasks or @mentions
- Personal versus team-wide notifications
- Mute specific projects
H2: Use cases
- Daily standup updates posted to #team
- Client feedback from Slack turned into tasks
- Sprint retrospectives started from Slack reminders
H2: Questions
- Can I create tasks from Slack messages? (Yes, with a slash command)
- Do Slack thread replies sync? (Yes, to task comments)
- Can I disconnect later? (Yes, in settings)
Product accuracy notes:
- The integration is one-way: Slack to [Your product] task creation only
- Slash commands need the premium plan; say so
- Setup takes about 2 minutes, not "seconds"
Acceptance criteria:
- [ ] Screenshots show the current UI (confirmed with the product team)
- [ ] Slash command examples tested
- [ ] Plan requirement stated for premium-only features
```

A brief takes you 30 to 60 minutes. The writer needs 3 to 5 hours for the draft. Your review takes about 30 minutes. That is 1.5 to 2 hours of your time for each article. If you write the full article yourself, it takes 4 to 6 hours, which you cannot sustain at two or three articles each week. The [SEO content brief template](/articles/content-brief-template-seo) covers brief fields for other content types.

## Rank content by impact against effort

Score impact on three dimensions:

- **Search volume:** monthly searches for the target keyword, from Ahrefs, Semrush, or Google Keyword Planner.
- **Conversion intent:** as a planning estimate, comparison and pricing pages convert to trials at 5 to 15%. Tips and trend posts convert at under 1%.
- **Keyword difficulty:** low-competition keywords can rank in 6 to 12 months, and high-competition keywords in 12 to 24 months.

Score effort on three more:

- **Length:** a 1,500-word post takes about 4 to 6 hours to write, and a 4,000-word pillar page about 12 to 16 hours.
- **Research depth:** interviews, data analysis, or custom graphics mean high effort. A page that reuses existing docs means low effort.
- **Dependencies:** engineering screenshots, design mockups, or legal review mean high effort.

| Content | Monthly searches | Intent | Difficulty | Words | Effort | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| "[Your product] vs. Asana" | 1,200 | High (comparison) | Medium (45) | 2,500 | Medium | P0 |
| "[Your product] Slack integration" | 300 | Medium (how-to) | Low (20) | 1,800 | Low | P0 |
| "Project management best practices" | 5,000 | Low (informational) | High (70) | 2,000 | Low | P2 |
| Annual remote work report | 0 (brand content) | Low | Not applicable | 3,000 plus data | High | P3 |

Use four priority levels:

- **P0, this sprint:** high impact and low to medium effort. Ship within two weeks. Comparison pages, integration guides, and use case pages usually land here.
- **P1, next sprint:** medium impact and low effort, or high impact and high effort broken into smaller pieces. Ship within four to six weeks.
- **P2, backlog:** low impact and low effort. Ship if capacity allows.
- **P3, question or stop:** low impact and high effort. Ask why the team is doing it. These are often vanity projects, such as press content that brings no trials.

Update the ranking each week in sprint planning or backlog refinement. Re-score as data arrives. If a P2 article reaches position 1 and drives 500 trials each month, it becomes a P0, and you expand it into a content cluster. [RICE scoring for SEO](/articles/rice-scoring-seo-prioritization) gives a more formal version of this score.

## Measure content by trials, not traffic

Traffic that does not convert tells you little. Measure each page by trial signups, feature adoption, paid conversions, and retention.

**Organic trial signup rate.** Divide trial signups from the page by its organic sessions. Suppose "[Your product] vs. Asana" had 1,500 organic sessions in 30 days and 90 trial signups. The rate is 6%.

Compare it with your site average; a common planning range for SaaS is 2 to 4%. A page at 6% earns more of the same, such as "[Your product] vs. Monday.com" and "[Your product] vs. ClickUp".

**Content-assisted conversions.** Some pages do not close the conversion but appear earlier in the path. In GA4, open the attribution paths report in the Advertising section and filter by the page path, such as `/blog/your-product-vs-asana`. Google renamed GA4 conversions to key events in March 2024, so the report labels can differ from older guides. A high assist count means the page educates users who convert later. Keep publishing that type of page.

**Feature adoption rate.** For integration guides and how-to pages, check whether readers use the feature. Suppose 500 users viewed "Set up recurring tasks" (tracked by an in-product event), and 200 of them turned on recurring tasks. The adoption rate is 40%. Below 20%, find the cause. The feature can be hard to use, the content can be unclear, or the feature can lack value. Fix the content, or flag the UX issue to the product team.

**Time to convert.** Measure the days from the first organic session to the trial signup in your CRM or analytics. As a rough planning range, self-serve plans at a low price convert in 1 to 7 days. Small-business plans convert in 7 to 30 days, and enterprise contracts in 30 to 90 days. A longer time than your tier's range often means the traffic is too early in the funnel. Move priority to comparison pages, pricing, and getting-started guides.

At the channel level, filter conversions by the organic search source in GA4 or your CRM. Report organic sessions, organic trial signups, trial-to-paid rate, and MRR from organic-sourced trials each month. Expect 6 to 12 months before MRR contribution is meaningful.

If the organic trial rate is below 2% after six months, check three causes. The keywords can be too early in the funnel. The landing pages can have weak CTAs. The product can have a fit problem, where users try it and see no value. The [GA4 SEO reports guide](/articles/ga4-seo-reports-guide) shows how to build these reports.

## Hand off cleanly to writers and engineers

You set priorities, growth marketers produce content, and engineers build the pages that need code.

**To the growth marketer, you deliver** the brief, the product accuracy notes, internal link suggestions, and the priority level with a deadline. The marketer returns a formatted draft with internal links, CTAs, and an optimized meta title and description. You review for product accuracy, user value, and CTA placement, and then approve or request changes. Your job is accuracy and value, not grammar.

**To the engineer, for landing pages, you deliver** requirements in user story format ("As a [persona], I want [capability], so that [benefit]"). Add a conversion goal, such as a 5% trial signup rate. Add A/B test hypotheses, such as "A hero CTA above the fold converts better than one mid-page". Add acceptance criteria: LCP under 2 seconds, the form submits, and the analytics event fires on each CTA click.

The engineer builds and deploys the page, sets up the A/B test tool, and adds GA4 events for clicks, form submissions, and trial signups. Google Optimize shut down in September 2023, so use Optimizely, another testing tool, or feature flags. You measure the conversion rate, pick the winner, and apply it to similar pages. [SEO user stories that engineering accepts](/articles/seo-user-stories-engineering) shows the story format in detail.

Most SEO content needs no engineering time. Blog posts, comparison pages, and integration guides live on the marketing site. Landing pages for tests, documentation updates, screenshots, and schema do need engineers. Reserve 5 to 10% of sprint capacity for that work, separate from feature development.

## Build five content types first

| Content type | Why it converts | Core sections |
|---|---|---|
| Comparison page: "[Your product] vs. [Competitor]" | Visitors compare tools and are close to a purchase. As a planning estimate, these pages convert at 8 to 15%. | Feature table, plan comparison, honest pros and cons, "best for" by user type, migration steps, trial CTA |
| Use case page: "[Category] for [vertical]" | Intent is clearer than a category search. "Project management for marketing agencies" converts better than "project management software". | Why the vertical needs it, key features (client portals, time and budget tracking, deliverable templates), product fit with screenshots, a customer story, getting started |
| Integration guide: "Connect [Your product] to [tool]" | Users want the product to fit their stack. If it integrates, they try it. | Why connect, step-by-step setup with screenshots, advanced configuration, workflow examples, questions |
| How-to guide: "[Outcome] in [Your product]" | Users search "how to" when they solve a problem, and they tie the product to the solution. | Why the outcome matters, prerequisites, numbered steps, tips, troubleshooting |
| Feature announcement: "Introducing [feature]" | Launches create queries such as "does [Your product] have [feature]". Rank for them before competitors do. | What it is, how it works (video or GIF), use cases, how to turn it on, plan availability |

Write each page for the user first. A heading such as "project management software for project management teams who need project management solutions" reads badly and converts badly. Answer the user's question, and then place the keyword naturally in the H1, the first paragraph, and the H2s. Google's ranking systems favor content that helps people, and a page that converts users is usually that page. The [SaaS SEO role breakdown](/articles/seo-saas-companies-role-breakdown) shows how this PM work fits with the founder, engineering, and growth roles.

As a time budget, content strategy takes about three to five hours of your week. Plan one to two hours for two or three briefs and one to two hours for draft reviews. Plan one hour for performance review. It fits into existing PM work, because content strategy uses the same feedback, ranking, and adoption data as product strategy.
