Distinguish paying online, reserving for an in-store transaction, and shipping an item to a store. Check that a shopper follows the same process from the public listing to the product page. Google's `pickup_method` documentation distinguishes these methods and an unsupported-pickup value. The methods have different feature support and eligibility requirements. Use the worksheet below before asking a developer to change your pickup wording. These are proposed checks, not a finding that your store qualifies for a particular Google program. ## Describe the actual store process Ask the store manager what happens between a shopper's request and collection. Record whether staff reserve stock, when payment occurs, and who tells the shopper the item is ready. Choose a specific store and product for the check. Keep that location and item consistent through the test. If pickup depends on the option selected, record the size, color, or other variant. Agree how staff handle unavailable stock. Publish a collection promise only when the manager confirms the process behind it. Do not turn an estimated stock note into a ready-for-pickup message. ## Separate the pickup methods Google defines `buy` as an online transaction and `reserve` as an online reservation with the transaction in-store. Use those distinctions to review your own page language: | Store process | Website details to confirm | | --- | --- | | Customer buys online for pickup | Payment step, selected store, and readiness notification | | Customer reserves and pays in-store | Reservation status, collection instructions, and payment timing | | Online purchase ships to the store | Delivery-to-store process and collection notification | | Item is unavailable for pickup | Clear unavailable state and approved alternative | Ask the person managing Merchant Center which pickup feature your account uses. Have that person check its current requirements. Do not infer eligibility from a website button or from the availability of one data field. ## Check the product page before checkout Open the exact public product address. Confirm the selected product, store, and pickup wording. Change the store or variant where the page offers that control. Record whether the shown availability and instructions follow the selection. Read the collection instructions on a phone. Check the address, collection point, and hours staff approved. State whether the shopper must wait for a ready message before traveling. If the store has several branches, test a product offered at one branch and unavailable at another. Give any inconsistent result to the maintainer with both selections recorded. Avoid using another branch's stock to justify a local promise. ## Follow the handoff to the store team Use an agreed test environment for the full flow. Keep real customer information out of the test. Check the selection and displayed terms without placing an unintended order. If the owner arranges a controlled test, follow it through the store's receiving system. Require staff to find the selected item and location. Ask who marks it ready and which message tells the shopper to collect it. Compare that message with the website instructions. Keep a reservation acknowledgment separate from a ready notice. If a step is missing, record the last confirmed point and responsible maintainer. ## Keep pickup promises current Name the person who approves pickup hours and the person who updates the public instructions. Include holiday changes and temporary collection arrangements in the checklist when relevant. For acceptance, require the selected store, item, method, and next step to agree across the tested path.
