A negative rating or disagreement with the reviewer does not, by itself, make the review eligible for removal. Google says it removes reviews that violate its policies and does not resolve ordinary business-customer disputes. Start with the policy and the review's content. Separate what you know from what you suspect. An unfamiliar reviewer name alone does not establish a fake review. Google's content policy prohibits fake engagement, including content not based on a real experience. It also addresses paid reviews, conflicts of interest, and other restricted content. If the issue is dissatisfaction with service, treat the service complaint as a matter for review and response. Do not describe an ordinary disagreement as confirmed fraud. ## Keep a private evidence record As a proposed preparation step, record the business profile, the review's location, the displayed text, the date you checked it, and the policy concern. Retain a screenshot where appropriate for your internal review. Write a short factual explanation. Identify which part of the review creates the concern. Avoid adding assumptions about the reviewer's identity or motive. Keep customer records and private contact details out of a public response. Use the platform's appropriate private process for any information it requests. ## Report through the official process Google's published instructions direct owners to their Business Profile, then Read reviews, then Report beside the relevant review. Verify that the account shown is associated with the intended business before proceeding. Follow the current on-screen instructions when wording changes. Do not submit claims you cannot support merely to fit a report category. ## Review a declined request Google documents a one-time appeal when a reported review is judged not to violate policy. Check the decision and eligible appeal options in the Reviews Management Tool. Prepare an appeal around the policy issue and evidence. Keep its status separate from a promise that the content will disappear. Record the final result when Google communicates it. ## Handle the public reply separately Decide whether a public response can provide a useful answer while the report is pending. Have the responsible person review the wording before publication. Google recommends professional, concise replies. Its guidance says to protect privacy and move complex matters to a private phone or email conversation. Google's Maps policy prohibits that conduct. Keep any service-resolution discussion separate from attempts to influence a review. ## Check the website after a decision If your website displays the disputed review through an integration, inspect what it shows after the platform decision. Ask the provider how that display refreshes. Record the observed result without assuming that every copy updates at once.
