Consider .realestate when you want an extension available beyond that membership.** NAR identifies .realtor as member-restricted and .realestate as available to members and the public. Before purchasing, settle the exact name, renewal responsibility, website package, and rights to change the destination. Then require the resulting website to explain your services and deliver seller and buyer inquiries to the agreed recipient. The buying checks below are recommendations. This article is not legal advice. ## Compare eligibility before searching for a name REALTOR® identifies membership in the National Association of REALTORS®. NAR's internet rules require the mark to refer to a member or the member's firm. It does not serve as a generic occupational label. Start with the identity you can keep accurate. Ask whose membership or business relationship supports the requested domain. For a team or brokerage, obtain eligibility confirmation for that entity rather than assuming an individual member's entitlement covers it. ## Check the exact label against NAR's rules NAR's internet guidance prohibits descriptive words or phrases with the REALTOR® mark. Its manual includes geographic descriptors in that restriction, with a separate permission for member boards. That board permission does not establish an individual agent's permission. Treat adding the mark inside a conventional domain name and choosing the .realtor extension as separate review questions. Obtain confirmation for the complete proposed address. Do not turn a general trademark explanation into approval for every label before the dot. NAR's announcement of the current .RealEstate brand illustrates a personal-name .realtor address and a geographic luxury-market .realestate address. Those examples establish neither availability nor permission for your proposed business name. For a city or niche brand, evaluate .realestate and request approval of the exact wording. Keep service-area and brokerage identification in the website brief. An available string is only one item in the purchase decision. State advertising review remains separate. In Texas, TREC requires broker registration of team names before advertising and requires those names to end in “team” or “group.” Its URL guidance also addresses names that imply a sales agent operates a brokerage. Its website plans have a thirty-day trial; Domain Only plans are billed at signup and excluded from that trial. Write down the website job before comparing packages. If your existing website meets the requirement, ask how Domain Only connects to it. If you need a replacement, ask the provider to demonstrate the selected plan against your approved pages and contact routes. Use these questions before checkout: | Requirement | Answer to obtain | | --- | --- | | Seller services | Can the selected plan explain your selling process and receive the intended question? | | Buyer services | Can it support the buying information, property context, and contact action you need? | | Page structure | Which pages or sections can you create and edit in this plan? | | Listing search | Which feed, approvals, subscription, and maintenance arrangement apply if required? | | Email | Which mailbox is included, who controls it, and what happens on cancellation? | | Exit | Which content, files, contact records, and account permissions can you retain? | Keep unanswered features out of the accepted scope. Require a demonstration of the actual plan rather than relying on a template preview. ## Establish domain rights and renewal responsibility The registry is the registrant and licensor of every .realtor domain. For .realestate, listed-registrant status depends on how and when it was acquired. The .realtor license is non-transferable and non-assignable. Separate moving the website from changing the domain's registrant or registrar. Ask the provider which destination changes your account supports. Obtain the instructions and authorization route before briefing another builder. The agreement permits automatic renewal at the current renewal fee, which can differ from the initial fee. Record the next charge, renewal date, payment method, account recovery route, and person responsible. Ask how website cancellation affects the domain and email separately. Do not treat cancellation of one product as confirmed continuation of the others. NAR's manual makes continuing membership a condition of using its marks. The registry agreement permits immediate termination of a .realtor license when the qualifying membership or relationship ends.
