Keep the viewing conditions recorded. Find where the difference first appears before adjusting the original photograph. Adobe recommends sRGB for images prepared for online viewing. Its guidance describes converting an existing image through Photoshop's Convert to Profile command. Use the process below with the studio editor and website maintainer. It does not diagnose a particular image or promise identical appearance on every device. ## Choose a known reference image Start with one photograph approved by the studio. Keep the original editing file unchanged. Record the version used to create the web export and who approved its appearance. Choose an image where the difference is easy to describe. Identify the affected area, such as a background or skin tone, without making a claim about its cause. Save the public page address and delivered image address. Ask the maintainer which file appears at the observed page size. Keep thumbnails and enlarged versions separately identified. ## Inspect the export before the website Ask the editor to record the export format, dimensions, color profile, and relevant settings. Compare the approved reference with that exported copy in the agreed review environment. Adobe explains that embedded profiles tell Photoshop how to interpret an image's color values. Missing profile information can require the application to infer that interpretation. Have the editor check the actual file, rather than infer its profile from its filename. If conversion is appropriate, ask for an approved new web copy. Preserve the original and the rejected export for comparison. ## Compare the uploaded and delivered versions Give the maintainer this proposed asset worksheet: | Version | What to record | | --- | --- | | Approved reference | Source identity and approving editor | | Web export | File identity, format, dimensions, and profile | | Uploaded asset | Exact version supplied to the website | | Delivered thumbnail | Address and observed appearance | | Enlarged image | Address and observed appearance | | Publishing treatment | Confirmed transformation or page styling | Ask whether the website creates another version after upload. Request evidence from the delivered file and the publishing configuration. Keep a suspected optimization change separate from a confirmed transformation. For the page presentation, ask the developer to inspect any applied visual styling. Record the actual treatment before asking the studio to compensate with another edit. ## Keep the viewing comparison controlled Record the device, application, and relevant viewing settings used for each observation. Compare the same image versions under the same agreed conditions first. Then record another environment as a separate check. Avoid using one person's description as proof that the source file is wrong. Give the editor and maintainer the same references and ask them to identify the first reproducible difference. If the file versions agree but the observations differ, leave the remaining cause unresolved. Keep the next investigation bounded to the conditions still in question. ## Accept an approved publishing sample Have the studio approve the replacement web copy. Require the maintainer to identify the file delivered in both the thumbnail and enlarged view. Keep those outputs attached to the same source record.
