Decide which shared services it can describe and who approves every update. Keep client-specific incident records in the authorized client channel. Begin with a publication brief rather than a live monitoring connection. A public update needs an approved statement of what is known, when it was checked, and where the reader should go next. ## Decide whether the information belongs in public Ask the incident and communication owners which services may be named. Record the audience for each proposed update. Leave customer identities, tenant details, private findings, and internal response instructions out of the public draft. When an update belongs only to a client, use the approved private channel. Google recommends password protection for private website content. Have the technical owner verify authorization and access controls for any private destination. An obscure URL should not become your confidentiality plan. ## Define the fields before writing an update Use this proposed public-update worksheet with the incident owner: | Field | Review requirement | | --- | --- | | Service name | Approved public name and scope | | Current state | Wording supported by the incident record | | Impact statement | Confirmed public facts with disclosure approval | | Update time | Date, time, and stated time zone | | Next update | Publish only a commitment the owner has accepted | | Contact action | Approved support route for the intended audience | Keep observed impact separate from suspected cause. Do not report containment, restoration, or successful validation because a draft template includes those headings. Require the responsible owner to supply the supported state. This worksheet establishes no incident diagnosis. It defines what a website maintainer needs before publishing an authorized update. ## Make current and historical information distinct Put the latest approved state first. Label older updates with their original times. Keep any later correction identifiable in the history instead of silently presenting the old statement as newly verified. Keep meaning visible in text alongside any status color or icon. Test the page on a phone with a long incident history. ## Keep support actions separate from the update Link to the approved support instructions. State the audience for that route.
