Google says it does not use the meta keywords tag. The tag has no effect on Google indexing or ranking. If your website editor asks for keywords, first establish what that field controls. Keep a research list for deciding what your pages should answer. Treat a field that produces the unused tag as a separate technical item. ## Identify the exact field before changing it. Ask your maintainer to inspect the page output and the editor setting together. Record whether the field generates this tag: ```html ``` The words in this example are illustrative. They are not a recommended keyword list or evidence of search demand. Google's documentation identifies that tag as unsupported for search. Ask separately whether the setting supplies an internal website function. Leave that dependency UNRESOLVED until your maintainer identifies it. A field's label alone does not tell you which code or service reads it. ## Keep these four website items separate. Use the following table to write a specific correction request. Ask the maintainer to show the corresponding output for one affected page. | Item | What to inspect | Decision to make | | --- | --- | --- | | Meta keywords tag | The exact tag shown above | Avoid treating edits to it as Google ranking work | | Page title | The page's HTML title and visible heading | Describe the page's actual subject clearly | | Meta description | The page-specific description tag | Summarize the approved content accurately | | Research worksheet | Your recorded questions and source data | Assign each question to a useful page | For titles, Google recommends concise, descriptive wording and discourages keyword stuffing. Google primarily creates search snippets from page content and sometimes uses the meta description. It may show different snippets for different searches. Use them to define which element needs inspection and what a proposed edit should accomplish. ## Turn a keyword request into a page decision. Suppose your planning sheet contains a hypothetical seller-preparation question. Open the existing seller page. Decide whether its approved text explains your preparation process and provides a relevant contact route. If the answer is missing, request that content using source material your business can support. If the page already answers the question, record it as the destination. Record the exact query, source, market, and collection date beside any estimate you use. Keep unmeasured questions labeled as unmeasured. ## Request a bounded website correction. Send your maintainer the page address, screenshot or export of the setting, and the question you need answered. Ask what output changes when the field changes. Request the answer before approving a wider cleanup. If the field only produces the unsupported tag, decide whether removal belongs in the next routine template edit. Ask for a separate scope if the change affects another website function. Do not describe removing the tag as a ranking improvement. For a title or description repair, retain the approved wording and previous value. Ask the maintainer to compare the delivered HTML with that wording. Keep a missing page answer, an inaccurate description, and an unused keyword tag as distinct corrections. ## Accept the work against an observable result. Require a record showing the affected URL, intended change, and delivered value. Confirm that the page still presents its approved content and contact route.
