Ask each provider to name the profiles, website pages, checks, and changes included in its proposal. Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance, and prominence. It also says businesses cannot request or pay for better local rankings. [Google local-ranking guidance, checked 2026.10.23](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091?hl=en). Use a package comparison to evaluate deliverables and responsibility. Leave guaranteed placement out of the buying criteria. ## Give every provider the same starting brief List the website, actual business locations, services, and problem you want addressed. Identify whether the problem concerns incorrect information, missing service explanations, low visibility, or inquiries that never reach the office. Ask the provider to inspect the existing setup before prescribing a page count. Keep your own approved list of business facts available for comparison. Use the same questions for every quote: | Work area | Question to resolve | | --- | --- | | Business Profile | Which fields will be inspected and which changes are included? | | Website | Which existing pages will change, and who publishes them? | | Listings | Which named destinations will be checked and corrected? | | Reviews | What request and reply process will be proposed? | | Reporting | Which sources, date ranges, and measures will be supplied? | | Handoff | Which files, accounts, and change records will you retain? | Leave an unanswered row marked unresolved. Do not infer implementation from the word “optimization.” ## Separate diagnosis from completed changes A report can identify work without implementing it. Ask which fixes the quoted package includes. Request a separate line for changes that need a developer, new photography, or owner-approved copy. For each proposed change, name its acceptance check. A corrected phone link should open the intended number. A revised service page should match approved services. A form change needs a marked submission received by the intended person. Keep those checks separate from later search observations. A published page proves publication when inspected. It does not establish a ranking increase. ## Keep access and review practices explicit Ask which permissions the provider needs for each task. Google's hiring guidance recommends read-only Search Console access during an initial audit. Have the agreement describe permission removal and export delivery when work ends. Do not put passwords in an inquiry form. Require an honest review process. Google prohibits incentives for reviews and selectively requesting positive reviews. It also prohibits requests for prescribed review content. Reject a package whose review target depends on scripted praise or a satisfaction filter. ## Compare the total scope and the report Ask for the term, renewal conditions, included work, extra charges, and cancellation procedure in writing. Compare quotes over the same period and the same location count. This worksheet supplies no market-average price. Request a sample report with sources and dates. Keep profile activity, website search clicks, and received inquiries in separate rows. Require a short explanation of what changed and what remains unresolved.
