# Stop Jasper drafts from drifting away from your brand voice.

You set up Jasper Brand Voice. You upload sample content, define your tone, and add company facts. The first draft sounds like you and names your products correctly. The second draft is more generic. By the third, the copy reads like any other AI marketing tool. You check the Brand Voice settings, and everything is still there.

Jasper built its reputation on marketing-focused AI, and Brand Voice was its answer to generic output. It helps. The memory is shallow, though. Jasper stores facts about your brand, but it does not hold your current strategy or the reasons behind your recent choices.

This article describes Brand Voice as Jasper presented it when this article was first written (January 2026). Product features change, so confirm the current behavior in your own account.

## How Jasper's memory works

Jasper Brand Voice has two parts.

**Memory.** You give Jasper details about your products, services, audiences, and company. Jasper stores them as a reference bank. When you generate content, Jasper pulls from Memory so that the facts are correct. It works like a knowledge base that the model can query.

**Tone & Style.** You define how your brand sounds. Jasper learns patterns from sample content, such as podcast transcripts, blog posts, and marketing emails. You set rules for sentence structure, vocabulary, and formality. Jasper applies those rules when it drafts.

Jasper described the feature as "a powerful, proprietary context hub of brand, marketing, and company knowledge." The memory bank is specific to your brand, and it lives inside Jasper's platform. Plan tiers had different memory capacities.

Brand Voice applies across Jasper's templates. Ad copy, blog introductions, and email sequences all draw on the same settings. That beats a rebuild of context for every template. It does not mean that Jasper remembers your work from one session to the next.

## Find where the drift comes from

**Template-driven work.** Jasper is organized around structured workflows: a product description, a Facebook ad, an email subject line. Each template reads Brand Voice, but context does not accumulate. You fill out forms that refer to a fixed knowledge base. You do not work with an assistant that learns over time.

**Facts without nuance.** Jasper can hold your product features, target audience, and mission, and it uses them correctly. It does not hold your recent campaign results, your evolving strategy, or last month's small shifts in positioning. Brand Voice is a snapshot, not a maintained document.

**Fixed tone rules.** You define patterns, and Jasper follows them. That supports consistency until your voice changes. If you move from formal to conversational, or start to use more contractions, you must update the rules by hand. Jasper does not adapt on its own.

**Session isolation.** Brand Voice applies inside each project, but Jasper does not remember yesterday's work. If you drafted an email campaign last week and want to build on it today, you start fresh. Continuity extends only as far as what you stored in Brand Voice.

**One-off generation.** Jasper is optimized for single content tasks. You give a task, Jasper returns content, and you move on. That model does not support ongoing, context-aware work on a complex campaign.

## Apply the workarounds, and know their limits

**Keep Brand Voice up to date.** Edit Memory each time your positioning changes. Adjust Tone & Style each time your voice shifts. This works if you remember to do it. If you set Brand Voice once and never return to it, the settings drift from reality.

**Upload fresh samples on a schedule.** Feed Jasper recent podcast transcripts, blog posts, and marketing emails. Jasper relearns your voice from them. This is manual curation, and you carry the work.

**Run templates in sequence.** Draft a blog post, then use an expand template, then a rewrite template. Each step reads Brand Voice, so the voice stays consistent inside one workflow. When you leave the project, the working context is gone.

**Paste earlier outputs as references.** Take last week's best Jasper output. Paste it into this week's task with the instruction "Write in this style." It helps, but you feed the model its own past output by hand.

None of these fixes the underlying limit. Jasper's memory is a reference bank that you maintain by hand, and it holds only what the settings can express.

## Build a voice file that holds strategy

A file-based approach treats brand context as a document that you maintain. Put a `CLAUDE.md` file, or a voice file that it names, in a folder you control, such as an Obsidian vault. Claude Code reads it at the start of each session. When your voice changes, you edit the file, and the next session reads the change.

Compare the two approaches on five points:

| Point | Jasper Brand Voice | Maintained voice file |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Applies inside Jasper templates | Applies to any task: an email, a strategy document, a campaign plan |
| Content | Facts and tone rules | Facts, tone rules, decisions, results, and current tests |
| Update | Edit settings or upload new samples | Edit one text file |
| Ownership | Stored in Jasper's platform and format | Markdown file that you keep and can move |
| Currency | Current as of the last settings change | Current as of the last file edit |

Ownership matters when a subscription ends. A Markdown file keeps its structure after you cancel, and other AI tools can read it. For the full inventory of what disappears with a cancelled plan, read [what stops when you stop paying for AI](/articles/what-stops-when-you-stop-paying-for-ai).

### A worked example

A voice file for a small marketing team can use four sections:

```markdown
# Brand voice
## Rules
- Second person. Short sentences. Contractions allowed.
- Never use "revolutionary", "game-changing", or "unlock".
## Reference samples
- samples/2026-01-newsletter.md (approved as the current benchmark)
## Decisions
- 2026.01.12: moved from formal to conversational tone for email.
  Reason: reply rate on formal emails fell in the December test.
## Current tests
- Subject lines under 40 characters, through the end of February.
```

The Decisions section is what a settings panel cannot hold. It records the change, the date, and the reason. A new session reads why the voice changed, not only what the rule says now. For more on brand context in files, see [AI brand memory for content creation](/articles/ai-brand-memory-content-creation).

Then add a drift check to every drafting task. After the model writes a draft, tell it to compare the draft with the Rules section and list each violation. You review the list before you edit. When the same violation repeats, add a rule or a correction to the file. That step turns a one-time fix into a durable rule, as described in [how corrections become system memory](/articles/corrections-become-system-memory).

## Know why the model forgets between sessions

A language model works inside a context window, a fixed amount of text that it can process at one time. A new conversation starts with a new window. Earlier conversations do not carry forward unless a product feature or a file puts them back in. The model does not choose to forget. The architecture has no place to keep the old window.

ChatGPT's Memory feature helps in part. It stores short summaries of facts from past conversations. It can hold "prefers short emails." It cannot hold a full operating record: procedures, client details, decision rules, and a complete style guide.

Chat history also differs from memory. History is a log of past conversations that you scroll through and reread. Memory is structured context that loads into each new session. For the full distinction, read [why chat history is not business memory](/articles/chat-history-is-not-business-memory).

Jasper's Brand Voice sits between the two. It loads into each template, but it holds only what its fields can express. A maintained file holds the rest, and you decide what it contains.
