Establish which part of the connection is affected before changing the whole website. Treat the incident as an evidence task. Record the failed page, observation time, provider response, and next check. Leave the cause unresolved until the responsible source confirms it. ## Separate the failed search from the rest of the site. Ask the maintainer to check the homepage, biography, seller information, contact form, and listing destination separately. Record which functions work and which do not. An empty result, a loading failure, and a stale property record need different investigations. Preserve the actual message or response. Ask the provider to explain its meaning before writing a public notice. Use the existing [MLS and IDX inspection guide](/articles/idx-mls) for normal display and indexing checks. This response plan covers communication, fallback contact, and recovery when the expected function is unavailable. ## Ask the responsible provider for a bounded update. Supply the affected URL, time, expected result, and observed result. Include the relevant account or feed identifier through the provider's approved support route. Keep credentials out of the public incident record. Ask whether the problem affects your integration, an upstream data source, or another service. Request a case reference and the next update time. Publish a cause or restoration estimate only after its source confirms it. Keep internal observations separate from provider statements. If the vendor has not confirmed an incident, describe the function you cannot verify. Avoid repeating a rumor about a cyberattack or an entire MLS. ## Publish a useful, limited notice. Prepare a notice that explains what the visitor can do next. Name the affected function and the time you checked it. Use a restoration time only when you have an attributable source. For example, propose wording that says listing search is unavailable, gives a checked time, and invites a property question through the working contact route. Have the responsible person approve the actual wording. Keep service pages available when they remain accurate and functional. Google's temporary-closure guidance recommends limiting website functionality rather than disabling the entire site. Apply that general principle with your maintainer. Ask the builder to distinguish unavailable search from a completed search with no matching properties. Do not display a claim that no homes exist when the source has not returned a usable result. Review old property pages and cached information with the provider. Request a clear freshness label where appropriate. Confirm what may remain displayed under the applicable feed agreement before changing listing data. Avoid creating substitute inventory from unverified copies. Record any permission question for the broker and data provider. Ask the broker and data provider to resolve permissions separately from restoration. ## Test the fallback and the recovery. Use a controlled inquiry to test the fallback route. Include a property reference without claiming its current availability. Confirm receipt and the receiving person's response process.
