Which listing agents should I compare in my city? Who handles the property type I need to sell? Use those questions to inspect the answer and its evidence. ChatGPT can search current web information and link relevant sources. Claude can also search the web and cite what it finds. These features give you evidence to inspect, rather than an answer to accept unread. Your task is to learn what an answer says about you. Separate your name appearing from your website being cited. Then separate both from an explicit recommendation to contact you. Use the following method to inspect each service. The checking steps are instructions, not results from a completed five-service test. ## What ChatGPT reads When search runs, ChatGPT can turn your question into targeted searches. It sometimes sends those searches to external search services. It can use approximate location, and saved memories can influence searches when enabled. For your check, include the city and state in the question. Ask it to search current public sources. Open citations and inspect the Sources list when available. Compare your website with any brokerage pages, directories, or articles listed there. Save the actual links instead of guessing which website supplied your name. You can separate search access from training access on your website. OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot for search and GPTBot for training, with independent settings. Ask your website manager to inspect the relevant access settings. In connected accounts, sources can also include uploaded files or Google Workspace material. Some responses have no source links. Google documents a Sources button when links are available. Open every visible link related to the named professionals. Check whether the page supports the specific description beside your name. A source about your brokerage needs scrutiny before attributing its statements to you. Keep Gemini and Google Search's AI answers in separate columns. Google allows some Gemini features without sign-in, depending on location and device. Choosing a different Gemini AI option requires sign-in. Note which controls you can use instead of assuming identical access everywhere. It can also read a supplied web address when web search is available. Its interface can show a search control or search automatically in the newer experience. Ask for current public evidence and inspect the linked pages. Leave the underlying search supplier unknown unless your evidence establishes it. A familiar search-engine label cannot replace the sources attached to the answer you received. Keep any later signed-in check separate from your signed-out sample. ## What Copilot reads Distinguish Copilot's chat page from Copilot Search in Bing. Microsoft's Bing announcement describes cited answers with links to the material used. It places source links beside answers and provides further relevant web results. For Bing's Copilot Search, open the cited material and inspect the linked passages. For Copilot chat, inspect whatever sources that response exposes. If no evidence appears, leave the source unknown rather than borrowing Bing's citations. Microsoft says Copilot personalization is disabled for unauthenticated users. That makes sign-in state a useful condition to retain in your notes. It does not establish a universally neutral answer. Its public description separates core search from additional paid features. [Perplexity's product description](https://www.perplexity.ai/hub). Its documentation describes PerplexityBot as surfacing websites in search results. Perplexity-User can visit a page in response to someone's question. For your sample, use the search experience available without an account. If access stops at sign-in, note the limit and stop. Open cited pages and find the text supporting each named professional. Keep the available search mode in your notes. Avoid comparing a basic search with a paid research session as though they were identical. ## Run a repeatable signed-out check Open a fresh private browser window. Confirm that the service itself shows you as signed out. Avoid account connections and uploaded material for this sample. Microsoft and Google document different access conditions, so inspect each service separately. Logging out does not remove your network location. ChatGPT documents approximate location from your network address. Claude also documents inferred location for local questions. Write down your city, device, browser, and network conditions. Note any location permission you granted. Prepare a short question list before opening the services. Use your actual market and the work you offer. Here are authored question templates, not measured search demand: - Which listing agents should I compare in [city, state]? - Who represents sellers of [property type] in [city, state]? - How should I compare listing agents before selling in [city, state]? Keep your name out of the first question. Then run a separate question using your business name. Treat that as an identity check, rather than evidence of an unprompted recommendation. Use the same wording across the available services. Start a new conversation for each question. Save the date, exact question, full answer, and visible source links. Save a screenshot before opening follow-up questions. If search never ran, label that answer separately. Repeat the original question in another fresh session. Keep the first answer even if the second looks better. Change device or network conditions only in a separately labeled comparison.
