Search for the business, confirm the selected location, and copy the identifier associated with that result. A Place ID identifies a place in Google's Places database. Google's documentation provides a finder and explains that the identifier can be used across several Maps services. Finding an ID does not demonstrate that you control the business or have permission to manage its profile. Keep identification, account access, and website configuration as separate checks. ## Confirm which identifier the integration requests Read the integration's own instructions before changing a setting. Record the exact field name and accepted value type. Ask the maintainer when the instructions say only "Google ID" without defining it. Do not substitute a Maps address, a website address, or another account identifier because it looks related. Keep the existing value available for comparison. Make the requested identifier explicit in the change brief. Use this worksheet to avoid losing the context: | Field | What to record | | --- | --- | | Website component | The map, directory entry, or integration using the value | | Requested identifier | Exact name used in the component's documentation | | Business location | Verified public name and address or location description | | Place ID | Value copied from Google's finder | | Check date | When you matched the selected place to the intended business | | Maintainer | Person authorized to change the configuration | ## Use the official finder and inspect the result Open the finder linked from Google's Place ID documentation. Search for the business with enough location detail to distinguish it from similarly named places. Select the matching result. Compare the displayed business identity and location with the intended destination. For several branches, repeat the check separately and label each record. Avoid assigning one branch's identifier to the whole business by assumption. If the result is ambiguous, leave the configuration unchanged and ask the account owner to confirm the place. Do not create a duplicate business profile as a way to obtain a new identifier. ## Test the component that uses the ID Give the authorized maintainer the chosen identifier and its supporting record. Have the maintainer make an agreed test change before replacing a live configuration. Check the resulting map or integration against the intended business location. Record the displayed destination and any mismatch. Keep the field name, selected place, and observed output together in the handoff. Recheck a failed integration and the selected place before assuming that a fresh website deployment will repair it.
