The linker passes measurement information between the domains so Google can measure that journey together. Both sides must support the setup. [Google's cross-domain explanation](https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/devguides/cross-domain). For an agent, start with the buyer's actual route: neighborhood page, property search, property detail, then inquiry. Check the seller route separately. Require evidence that measurement continues across the relevant pages and that the message reaches its recipient. This guide proposes a website acceptance method. It does not report tests from your website or promise more inquiries. ## Identify where the property search and inquiry live Follow the search link from your own website. Record the starting address, destination, inquiry form, and confirmation page. Ask your provider to classify the implementation before changing GA4. | Arrangement to inspect | Evidence to request | | --- | --- | | Search pages remain on your website | Tagged page addresses and the form's success signal | | Search opens a separate hosted domain | Destination tagging access and supported cross-domain configuration | | Search uses a subdomain | Cookie-domain settings, tag coverage, and any self-referral evidence | | Search appears inside an iframe | Embedded document address and the vendor's supported measurement method | For subdomains, inspect cookie-domain settings before assuming a separate root-domain problem. An iframe contains its own document. Browser rules restrict script access between different origins. Treat an embedded search as a separate implementation question. Ask the vendor how the embedded form reports successful inquiries to your measurement setup. Require its supported integration and a test result. Do not treat adding the iframe's domain to a list as proof that its activity is measured. ## Confirm tagging access before configuring domains Google requires the same `G-` tag ID from the same web data stream on the pages included in cross-domain measurement. [Google's tagging requirement](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811?hl=en). Ask the IDX provider these questions in writing: - Can our own GA4 tag run on the search, property, form, and confirmation pages? - Which exact hostnames does this account use, including redirects and login destinations? - Does your integration accept incoming linker parameters and preserve them through redirects? - Can we verify the inquiry's success event and its receiving destination? Name the person responsible for each side. Confirm that tagging applies to your pages or account. Request precise domain conditions rather than approving a shared vendor domain without reviewing what it matches. If the provider cannot support the required tagging, report cross-domain measurement as unsupported or unresolved. Keep an inquiry form on your own website available while you scope a supported alternative. ## Configure the web stream and inspect the linker An authorized editor can open **Admin > Data collection and modification > Data streams**. Select the web stream, then **Configure tag settings > Configure your domains**. Add conditions for the participating domains and save. Google requires Editor access or above. [Google's configuration instructions](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811?hl=en). Google recommends the Analytics Admin setup for most GA4 implementations. Its developer documentation explains that the source decorates destination links with `_gl`, which the destination tag reads. Decoration happens when the link is clicked. [Google's linker documentation](https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/devguides/cross-domain). For your acceptance check, open a fresh test session and follow the real search link immediately. Record the destination request containing `_gl`. Check the return route as well when the visitor comes back to your website. If the parameter disappears, ask the developer to inspect redirects and scripted navigation. Google documents redirects removing `_gl` and click-handling conflicts preventing decoration. The linker documentation describes additional form-decoration configuration; an ordinary link test does not establish every route. Google's `gtag` API supports retrieving both fields. Use that API or a documented diagnostic method available in the integration. Require the correct destination stream to receive the activity. A decorated link alone is insufficient evidence for closing your acceptance check. Enable debug mode for the tester's device and inspect **Admin > Data display > DebugView**. It displays collected events and parameters. Repeat the test for the property-detail link and any return to your seller or buyer contact page. Save the date, device, route, consent state, and pass or failure for each transition. Test the website's consent choices separately. Google notes that denied Analytics consent or client privacy controls can prevent events appearing in DebugView. Record that condition without changing a visitor's choice to force measurement. Use it as a proposed event for an accepted buyer or seller request. [Google's event definition](https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/ga4/reference/events#generate_lead). Ask the provider to document its trigger. Require one event after successful acceptance. Test validation failures and repeated confirmation-page visits. Keep saved searches and account registrations outside the inquiry total unless your reporting definition explicitly includes them. Use contact details you control and a recognizable test message. Confirm receipt in the agreed inbox or contact system. Record the accepted submission and matching received message as separate checks. Keep names, email addresses, personal phone numbers, and message text out of Analytics. Google prohibits personally identifiable information in collected data, including URLs and user-entered fields. Enhanced measurement stops recording automatic outbound clicks to domains configured for cross-domain measurement. Require a separate documented click event if your reporting still needs that count.
