Ask the maintainer to record what appears, where it appears, what triggers it, and which provider explains its purpose. W3C's transparency principle calls for “relevant explanatory information about the use of data”. Use the inventory to gather the evidence needed for that explanation. This is a proposed discovery brief, not legal advice or the result of a website audit. Keep unknown purposes and uninspected transmissions UNRESOLVED. ## What should a real estate agent ask the inventory to cover? Ask it to cover public pages, seller forms, buyer inquiries, listing search, booking, video, chat, and measurement tools where present. List relevant domains and subdomains. Give each outside component an owner responsible for obtaining its evidence. ## What is the difference between an inventory and a consent decision? The inventory records observations and provider explanations. The reviewed consent decision specifies intended behavior. Keep these records separate so an existing cookie is not treated as approved merely because it was discovered. ## What should be recorded for each observed cookie? Require the maintainer to state what inspection methods were used and what they could not observe. ## How should a clean baseline be captured? Use a controlled browser session without previous website activity. Start recording before the page loads. Record the browser conditions and initial page. Repeat the procedure independently when comparing different choices, rather than reusing an unexplained session state. ## Which visitor-choice states should be included? Include first load, no interaction, available rejection, selective choices, acceptance, and later changes where the interface offers them. Record the actual labels and sequence. Treat those as observation scenarios, not statements that the configured choices satisfy legal requirements. ## How should delayed activity be inspected? Ask the maintainer to watch the page after initial load and perform agreed interactions. Record the observation interval and actions. Include scrolling, opening a modal, starting video, and opening search where relevant. Do not describe a scan as exhaustive when those states were untested. ## How should embedded IDX be inventoried? Inspect listing search, property details, registration, saved-search actions, and inquiries as separate route steps. Ask the maintainer to distinguish the parent page from the embedded provider. Request provider evidence for behavior the available inspection cannot establish. ## How should a seller valuation form be inventoried? Record activity before opening the form, after opening it, during validation, and after an agreed synthetic submission. Identify the destination of the test request. Keep delivery evidence separate from the tracking and storage observations. ## How should booking and video tools be handled? Treat them as distinct components with distinct interaction states. Record the page before activation and after the tool opens. Give the relevant provider a specific unanswered question rather than assigning a generic purpose to every request it makes. ## How should the provider of an unfamiliar cookie be identified? Request configuration records and redacted traces from the responsible maintainer or provider. State clearly when those records were unavailable. Keep the browser-observation boundary in the report so readers can see which systems remain uninspected. ## How should request captures be shared safely? Use synthetic details and remove secrets or identifying values before sharing evidence. Keep the original capture in restricted storage if needed for review.
