Google also lists it among controls for limiting information shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Apply it to a supported section rather than removing the entire agent service page from Search. Start by naming the passage you want excluded and the reason. Keep your approved identity, representation explanation, and inquiry route available to visitors. Correct inaccurate wording before deciding which accurate text should appear in a preview. Google's robots specification was updated on 2026.03.24. Use this comparison before approving a website change. [Google's control definitions](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/robots-meta-tag). | Intended result | Control | What to understand before choosing it | | --- | --- | --- | | Exclude selected text from snippets | `data-nosnippet` | Applies to supported HTML elements, not the whole page by default. | | Limit text-preview length | `max-snippet` | Sets a character limit and limits direct input into Search AI features, subject to documented exceptions. | | Suppress page-wide text snippets | `nosnippet` | Also prevents the page content becoming direct input for AI Overviews and AI Mode. | | Remove the page from Search | `noindex` | Excludes the page from search results. | Google requires a supporting page in AI Overviews or AI Mode to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. Meeting those requirements does not guarantee inclusion. For an agent service page you want people to find, request a narrowly defined passage change. Ask the maintainer to identify any existing page-wide restrictions before adding another control. This brief concerns Google Search's AI features. Google distinguishes their controls from Google-Extended controls for some other systems. Keep those decisions in a separate brief. It is a Boolean attribute: even `data-nosnippet="false"` excludes the enclosed text from snippets. Remove the attribute to remove that restriction. [Google's HTML rules](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/robots-meta-tag#data-nosnippet-attr). Give your builder a marked-up copy of the page. Identify the exact start and end of the passage. Ask for the smallest supported wrapper that contains it. The following is a structural example. Replace the uppercase tokens with approved public wording before using it. These tokens are not an agent's claims or a ready-to-publish page. ```html

``` Keep the service explanation and contact action outside the excluded wrapper unless you intend to restrict them too. Require the builder to show where the wrapper closes. Google warns that an unclosed wrapper can encompass later content. It also advises against adding or removing this attribute from existing elements through JavaScript. [Google's implementation cautions](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/robots-meta-tag#data-nosnippet-attr). Request the attribute in the initial page HTML wherever the template permits it. If a component creates new elements with JavaScript, review Google's instructions for adding the attribute when those elements enter the document. Do not use this control to protect private client information. Google's access guidance recommends password protection for private material. Keep contracts, financial records, and private correspondence behind appropriate access controls. Record any repetition in another service page, biography, FAQ, or public document. Review each copy against the intended preview decision. Inspect structured data separately. Google says structured data remains usable for search results even inside a `data-nosnippet` element. Wrapping visible text does not replace reviewing the data you supply. Ask the maintainer to inspect both robots meta tags and `X-Robots-Tag` response headers. Google applies the more restrictive rule when controls conflict. Use this proposed change record. Its fields describe evidence to collect, not findings from your website. | Field | Record before the change | | --- | --- | | Page | Exact public URL and responsible template. | | Passage | Approved wording, wrapper boundaries, and reason for exclusion. | | Retained content | Identity, service explanation, and inquiry action that should remain available. | | Other copies | Public URLs and structured-data fields needing separate review. | | Existing controls | Meta tags, response headers, and relevant crawl restrictions. | | Ownership | Copy approver, implementer, and person responsible for later checks. | Agree a rollback before release. Save the original template and approved wording. Require a review if the proposed change expands from one passage to every page. ## Distinguish current HTML from Google's processed version Have the maintainer fetch the exact public URL after the change. Save the response status, headers, HTML, and check date. Locate the marked passage and verify its wrapper boundaries. Then inspect the URL in Search Console. Google's URL Inspection documentation distinguishes the indexed version from a live test. The indexed report includes the last crawl and Google-selected canonical URL. Ask for these separate records: 1. The live-test HTML showing the intended attribute around the approved passage. 2. The indexed report's last crawl, canonical URL, and available crawled HTML. 3. A comparison between the last crawl and the website change date. 4. Any unavailable evidence, with an assigned follow-up owner. If Google's chosen canonical is another URL you control, inspect that URL too. Keep evidence for each address together. Do not close the task using a current live test when the indexed evidence still precedes the change. Google's AI guide recommends checking the HTML Googlebot received and allowing time for recrawling and processing. It gives no fixed completion deadline for preview-control changes. Google says repeated requests do not accelerate crawling, and a request guarantees no search inclusion. Leave processing pending until the available crawl evidence supports a later check. ## Check the answer and the inquiry path separately The preview-control inventory identifies the disputed passage and the page Google processed.
