Identify who controls the domain, hosting, page files, and inquiry destination. Confirm the business can retain what its agreements allow. ICANN distinguishes the registrant, which holds the rights to a registered domain, from registrars and resellers. It says registration terms are governed by the agreements with the registrar. A familiar website logo or a hosting invoice should not settle your account-control questions. ## Inventory the systems separately Ask the owner and current provider to identify each service. Record its account holder, billing contact, recovery method, and business contact responsible for it. Keep passwords and recovery codes outside the handoff sheet. Mark access unconfirmed until the authorized person demonstrates it. ## Verify control through the account holder Have the owner or authorized administrator demonstrate the relevant account view. Compare the domain and service identity with your inventory. Record the observation date and unresolved differences. Ask who receives renewal notices and who can recover access if the current contact leaves. Use a business-approved recovery arrangement. Leave a disputed account or unclear authorization pending while the responsible parties resolve it. Do not request a domain transfer merely to prove that access exists. Request editable originals where the agreement supports that request. Avoid promising that an export reproduces every hosted feature. Ask the receiving builder to inspect the actual export before accepting it. Record missing files, unsupported formats, and dependencies requiring separate work. ## Protect inquiry continuity during the change Document the current form recipient and reply route before changing providers. Identify which service sends notifications and who maintains its configuration. Agree on a controlled inquiry test with the office. Use a marked message and reply details you control. Save the actual receiving record before the change and repeat it after the approved cutover. Keep the old arrangement available for the agreed recovery period. Have the authorized owner approve cancellation only after the replacement checks pass and contract terms are resolved. ## Accept the handoff against evidence Require the owner to locate the account inventory, retained files, renewal responsibilities, and inquiry receipt.
