Ask the builder to demonstrate those behaviors on the installed design. Use this checklist for interface acceptance. It does not evaluate answer accuracy or promise accessibility conformance. Agree on the intended behavior before recording a test result. ## Identify the interface before choosing its keyboard pattern Ask whether the launcher opens a modal dialog, a non-modal panel, or another interface. Have the developer explain which controls remain available outside the panel. W3C's modal-dialog pattern describes background content as inert while the dialog is active. Its keyboard pattern moves focus inside and contains the Tab sequence. Use those checks when the installed chat uses that pattern. Record the selected design and its expected behavior with the builder. ## Walk through opening, typing, and closing Start at the page's ordinary contact action. Use the keyboard to reach the chat launcher, open it, find the message field, and reach the send and close controls. Record where focus goes at each step. For a modal dialog, W3C specifies closing with Escape and normally returning focus to the invoking control. The pattern describes exceptions when that control no longer exists or a different workflow step needs focus. If the widget requests contact details, inspect each field's label and instructions. W3C's forms tutorial covers those elements. Require essential page and chat controls to remain reachable. ## Match each message to an observed state Ask the builder and receiving staff to agree on what each status means. Use the table below as proposed wording to adapt after checking the actual system. | State to demonstrate | Proposed message rule | Evidence to inspect | | --- | --- | --- | | Visitor is still composing | Do not claim a message was submitted | Text remains in the input | | Message saved for later review | Describe it as a saved request | Matching record at the agreed destination | | Live staff are unavailable | Explain the approved next step | Staff availability and configured fallback | | Staff have joined | Announce attendance only after acceptance | Matching staff session | | Submission failed | Show the failure and an alternative | Failed test and usable contact route | Keep a received request separate from an appointment or accepted project. Have the office approve any response-time commitment before it appears in the widget. ## Make errors understandable and test the fallback W3C's notification tutorial calls for success and error feedback, with clear instructions for correcting errors. Agree on a controlled failure test with the builder. Use sample details you own. Check whether the visitor can understand the failure, correct the input where appropriate, or choose an ordinary contact route. Ask for a separate test with the widget unavailable. Confirm that the page's contact information and inquiry action remain usable. Keep the launcher from covering those alternatives. ## Retain the acceptance record Record the page, device, interface pattern, test steps, expected behavior, observed result, and person checking it. Keep failed checks open until the changed behavior is demonstrated. For a saved-message test, compare the visitor's sample with the record staff receive. Keep sample messages outside customer-inquiry reports. Recheck affected cases after widget or page changes.
