[Merriam-Webster's definition, checked 2026.10.23](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/brick-and-mortar). A website can support that location through directions, product information, reservations, or online purchases. Start your website brief by deciding which of those actions the store can fulfill. Selling online and serving customers in a store can coexist. The Census Bureau defines ecommerce sales by an order placed, or price and terms negotiated, through an online system. Payment can occur offline. That definition concerns the transaction, rather than whether the retailer also has premises. Does a shopper visit without an appointment? Can staff reserve an item? Does the website accept payment, or does the shopper pay at collection? Give each supported process a separate instruction. If staff must confirm stock, ask the website to say that. Avoid using a purchase button for a request that still needs manual approval. Ask for it when the store has agreed how orders, stock, payments, and fulfillment will work. ## Make the location page useful before adding more pages Prepare the public address, actual entrance, regular hours, and any approved access instructions. Use photos the store owns or has permission to publish. Ask a staff member to compare the directions with the physical arrival route. Google's Business Profile guidelines require an accurate address or service area and a business name consistent with its real-world representation. Keep any difference in a correction list with a named person responsible for checking it. ## Separate browsing from stock confirmation For each product page, identify what the stock statement means. A photograph of the range does not establish that every pictured item is available today. Have the store choose between live availability, manual confirmation, and a general range description. Explain the next step beside the product information. A shopper should know whether to visit, request confirmation, reserve, or buy. Ask staff to approve the wording they will have to honor. Follow the public information to the contact or pickup step. Ask the store to confirm the received request and explain what happens next. Record any missing product identifier, wrong hours, or ambiguous collection promise. Accept the corrected behavior before adding another feature.
