Include project pages, downloadable sheets, and the contact route each page should support. Decide what stays public before choosing new addresses. Ask the practice lead to approve retained work, consolidated projects, and material that should be withdrawn. ## Inventory the project addresses people already use Ask the maintainer to export current project pages and linked downloads. Add addresses used in proposals, directories, public biographies, and the studio's own published material. Record the exact address and its purpose. Keep an image file, project story, and downloadable document in separate rows. They may need different destinations. Use this proposed project map: | Existing item | Decision to record | | --- | --- | | Retained project | Preserve its address or name the replacement project page | | Renamed project | Approved title and final address | | Consolidated pages | Relevant combined project explanation | | Withdrawn material | Owner-approved handling and related public links to update | | Download | Current approved file or explicit removal decision | | Inquiry path | Intended contact destination from the retained page | Keep unresolved destinations visible before the rebuild is accepted. Do not default every missing project to the homepage. ## Choose relevant destinations Google recommends permanent server-side redirects where possible for URL moves, including 301 and 308 responses. It advises avoiding redirect chains and irrelevant redirects to a single destination such as the homepage. Ask the builder to use the approved project map when configuring redirects. A retired project without a relevant replacement needs an explicit decision from the studio and maintainer. Keep the new page's description accurate. Redirecting a former project address should not make an unrelated project appear to be the same work. ## Preserve the project explanation Compare the retained page with the project lead's publication record. Check the studio role, project status, approved location detail, image credits, and permitted downloads. Check links between the studio biography, service pages, portfolio index, and retained project. Update your own links to the final destinations instead of relying entirely on redirects. Record the original address, response, final destination, and date checked. Ask the builder to demonstrate that retained projects remain reachable from the portfolio index. Check images, downloads, and the inquiry link on phone and desktop previews. Where a contact form carries project context, arrange a marked test with synthetic details. Confirm that staff receive the intended project reference and reply information. ## Keep the map after release Store the approved map with the website handoff. Name who handles later project renames and file replacements. Require a destination decision before changing an established public address.
