Keep approved records there. Let the assistant retrieve authorized evidence and prepare a proposal that a person can review. Avoiding a second technology stack depends on the existing product's capabilities. Avoiding a second authoritative record is a design choice you can make now. These are different requirements. Primary documentation was checked on 2026.10.22. The architecture below is proposed guidance, not a deployed customer system. ## Inventory the existing read and permission paths Name the authoritative record, its owner, its revision field, and its permission model. Check whether the existing product supports an approved API, read-only query, or export. If PostgreSQL already holds the records, its row-security policies can restrict which rows a user may access. The documentation notes exceptions for table owners, superusers, and roles with bypass privileges. Do not test access only with an administrative role. If an existing warehouse holds the source, its [search-service documentation](https://docs.snowflake.com/en/user-guide/snowflake-cortex/cortex-search/cortex-search-overview) provides a candidate to evaluate. Its owner-rights security model requires careful service scoping. It does not automatically reproduce each querying user's underlying-table permissions. These examples establish possible components. They do not establish availability in your account or compatibility with every existing system. ## Keep the first workflow read-only Choose one question that has a verifiable answer in existing records. For example, use a synthetic project record with an approved decision and a revision date. A proposed request path is: 1. Authenticate the user through the existing application. 2. Resolve the records that user may read. 3. Retrieve a bounded source set. 4. Send only permitted evidence to the model. 5. Require source references with the answer. 6. Save the answer as a draft outside the approved record. Enforce the access decision in application or database code. A prompt asking the model to respect permissions cannot replace that check. The proposed control is independent of the model provider. Test it with allowed and denied synthetic records. ## Reuse storage without confusing its roles Conversation state, search indexes, and approved business records serve different purposes. Your existing database might hold all three, but each still needs an owner and lifecycle. If an index is required, treat it as a rebuildable derivative. Record the source revision and refresh process. Keep approval and correction authority in the original system. If the existing product cannot provide safe access or an acceptable retrieval path, mark the single-stack requirement unresolved. Do not describe a new hosted index as “no new stack.” ## Make writes a separate phase For a proposed record change, show the original value, proposed value, reason, source revision, and reviewer. Recheck the source revision before applying an approved update. Use the existing product's supported validation and write path. If another person changed the record, return the proposal for review instead of overwriting it. Keep sends, publication, and financial actions separate from drafting. Give each action a named approver and an observable outcome. ## Test authority after a correction Correct a synthetic source record and repeat the question. The answer should cite the current revision. Denied records should remain inaccessible. Restart the application and repeat the test. The proposed acceptance result is a source-grounded answer, enforced access, recoverable records, and no unapproved write. Keep failures visible.
